Overview
Malt is Europe's leading freelance marketplace. I joined as a Product Designer to reimagine the end-to-end hiring flow, from search to contract signing.
Problem
The existing flow had a 68% drop-off between profile view and first message sent. Users found it hard to evaluate freelancers and felt uncertain about pricing.
Approach
I ran 30+ user interviews and synthesized key trust signals. We redesigned the profile page to surface social proof, availability, and project fit above the fold.
Outcome
- First-message conversion improved by 23%
- Average time-to-hire reduced from 8 days to 5 days
- Mobile completion rates matched desktop for the first time
